It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we have lost a son, husband, father and grandfather. Shawn Colin MacNeil passed away peacefully at home with family in Windsor, Ont., after a two year battle with ALS, which he dealt with courageously till the end.
Born in Sydney, Shawn was the youngest son of Malcolm and Ruth MacNeil of Big Pond.
Shawn was very active in hockey as a goaltender beginning at the early age of six years up to 46.
He had a great love for Cape Breton and although he moved to Ontario in his early 20s, he returned home each year.
Shawn was a quality assurance inspector by trade and was highly respected by his co-workers.
He leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Debbie (Corbett); son, Brehan; daughters, Alyssa and Connor; grandson, Bentley Shawn; brother, Bruce (Trica); sisters, Debbie and Michelle (Allan); all the in-laws from the Corbett family and several nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012 from 3-4 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Big Pond with mass at 4 p.m. A potluck supper will be held at the Big Pond Fire Hall with musical entertainment to follow.
