Basil Joseph Joe, 52, of Eskasoni, C.B., passed away Jan. 8, 2010, at his residence in Halifax, N.S.
Born at St. Rita Hospital, Sydney, N.S., he was the son of the late Frank and Rita Joe (poet) of Eskasoni.
When he was younger he was an avid sports fan, seen at all hockey and baseball tournaments. He was as carpenter by trade and also an ambulance driver. He was a member of Holy Family parish.
Basis is survived by his sisters, Phyllis Denny, Evelyn Joe, Frances (Thomas) Sylliboy, Caroline Joe and Ann Joe, all of Eskasoni; brothers, Martin Dohrmann, Germany, Eddie (Marlene) Ginter, Sydney Forks, Charlie (Eleanor) Joe and Dana (Mabel) Joe, Membertou; godmother, Pauline Bernard, Membertou; godchildren, Nikhea Bernard, Angie Toney and Jessica Francis, all of Eskasoni, Stevie Rose Jr., Sydney; aunts and uncles, George Fidelis (Annie), Paul, Mary Ann (Murray) Marshall, Carmel Mellen, all of Chapel Island.
Visitation for the late Mr. Joe will take place after 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11 at the Gabriel Centre, Eskasoni. Funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church, Eskasoni, with Rev. Joseph Gillis officiating. Intemrernt in the parish cemetery, Eskasoni.
