It is with deep sadness that we must announce the passing of Bernard Arthur "Bernie" Pettigrew, age 64, of Amherst. Bernie passed away at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Sunday, August 5, 2012.
Bernie was born in Springhill, NS, son of the late Claire and Laura Pettigrew.
Bernie served 7 years in the US military, including 4 tours in Vietnam, he was a member of the Legion in Parrsboro and Joggins, He received the Jim Perkins Life Time Achievement Award in baseball. Bernie enjoyed playing baseball and coaching boys baseball which he received an appreciation award for his years of volunteering; He enjoyed playing darts and golf.
Bernie is survived by his wife, the former Terry Reid; three sons, Darrick (Julie) Pettigrew of Truro, Bryan (Kandra) Pettigrew of Dartmouth, and Dennis Pettigrew of Dartmouth; five grandhchildren; sister, Brenda (Scott) Welton of Eastern Passage; a niece and a nephew; step children, Tiffany, Paula and Sean; step grandchildren.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St, Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where a Celebration Of Life will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012. Family and friends will gather between 2 and 4 pm to share stories and memories of Bernie and support for one another.

Terry would like to extend her thanks to the nurses on the Medical Care Unit of the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, especially the nurses in the Ambulatory Care Unit and special thanks to Dr. Bob.
