Passed in: Cardston, Alberta, Canada
Passed on: August 3rd, 2012

At Cardston, Alta., on Aug. 3, 2012, Willie MacArthur passed away peacefully. Willard Ralph MacArthur, affectionately known as Willie, "the Rev", and "Mac". Born Jan. 28, 1946, in Summerside. Beloved husband of Anne; father to Rhonda MacArthur; Stacey (Doug) MacDonald; grandfather to Reese; Colby and Aiden. Son of the late Alice and Angus MacArthur; brother to Margaret Cass Harris (deceased); Jeanne Arsenault; Jessie Graham; Sylvia Barrett (Keith) and Goldie MacArthur. As a teenager Willie moved away from home and worked in Toronto as a service station attendant. Joined the military in 1967 and had postings to Gagetown, N.B.; Northwest Germany; Petawawa, Ont.; Ottawa, Ont.; Suffield, Alta.; Moose Jaw, Sask., where he married the love of his life, Anne. They then were posted to Southwest Germany, and finished his military career in Victoria, B.C., in 1995. Willie and Anne moved to Okotoks, Alta., in 1998. Those who knew Willie well were not surprised when shortly after this move, he volunteered to go to Bosnia for nine months. On his return he pursued a career as a long-distance truck driver. In 2008, Willie and Anne then moved to his dream home in Cardston, Alta., where he continued trucking until his illness forced him to retire. Willie enjoyed telling stories, jokes and pulling pranks. Willie was a loyal friend who loved good times with his friends and family. He had a life-long love of old country music, camping and always looked forward to Artillery reunions and the opportunity to reacquaint with old friends and make new ones. For those of us who knew and loved Willie, ALS took him far too soon. He fought a long, hard battle with no complaints. If so desired, donations can be made to the ALS society. Although "THE LAST CURTAIN FALLS" he will always be with us. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Martin Bros. Funeral Chapels Ltd., 1-800-382-2901. Send condolences atwww.mbfunerals.com.
