Dallas Laskey

LASKEY, DALLAS - It is with sadness and love that we announce the passing of Dallas Laskey on August 12, 2012 at the age of 92. He was a remarkable man, loving, compassionate, curious, with a warm smile and an enthusiasm for life. He was the devoted husband of Marie Laskey. Beloved father of Janet (David) and Jennifer (Bruce), “Buba” to his grandchildren Caragh, Riley, Matthew (Shanna) and Mackenzie and great grandfather of Katy Rae. He was born and raised in Fredericton NB. After graduation from UNB he joined the RCAF. He was shot down twice during the war and awarded the DFC for heroism. He spent 2 years in POW camp and was an active participant in the Wooden Horse escape. After the war he attended Harvard University where he earned his PhD in philosophy. He was a gifted teacher and found great reward in his years of teaching at Tufts, Bishops and finally Concordia where he finished his career as distinguished professor emeritus. Forever learning, in retirement, he took up jazz piano at age 75 and began studying Arabic at 89. His vision, integrity and humor will be sorely missed.
All who wish are welcome to attend a funeral service to be held on August 18th at All Saints Anglican Church Westboro, 347 Richmond Rd Ottawa. In lieu of flowers donations to the Carleton Place Hospital would be appreciated. A memorial will be held in Fredericton at a later date
