Passed in: Mill Creek, Nova Scotia, Canada

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our father, John ‘Jackie’ McInnis, who died peacefully after a short battle with cancer. At the end, his last wish was fulfilled to pass in the home he built surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Florence, Dad was the son of the late Joseph and Leona (Sampson) McInnis.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Janice (Jessome) McInnis; his three children, David, Calgary, Roxanne, Vancouver, and Gary, Bras d’Or; his three grandchildren, Jenna, Lucas and Emily, as well as two great-grandchildren, Aiden and Hunter; brothers, Thomas and Stephen Nicholas; and sisters, Clara Pyke and Dolores Harding.
He was predeceased by his brother, Charles ‘Buddy’ Nicholas Jr.
Dad was adopted into the Sampson family and grew up surrounded by loving grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Many people knew him in his youth as Jackie Sampson. He learned of his biological family as a young adult and was welcomed with open arms by his brothers and sisters. Dad always felt grateful to be a part of three loving families, the Sampsons, the Nicholas’ and his wife’s family, the Jessomes.
Dad was a “jack of all trades” and did everything from painting and fixing cars, to building houses, renovations and custom cabinets. Dad also was much loved as a school bus driver for the Northside Victoria District School Board. He drove in North Sydney for 17 years and loved each and every one of the kids on his route, often coming home with birthday and Christmas presents from the kids on his route.
Visitation today (Wednesday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses who took care of him during his illness.
Expressions of sympathy may be sent to d.francis@ns.sympatico.ca.
