PURDY, Verna Elizabeth – of Cedar Lake, Nova Scotia, passed away August 13, 2012 at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax. Born December 26, 1931 in Port Maitland Yarmouth County, she was a daughter of the late Leverne and Evelyn (Walker) Sollows.
Verna was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother whose greatest joy was her family. She was a homemaker for most of her life, generous in every way, especially with her time and talents. She enjoyed knitting and quilting, particularly for the young people in her life. She took great pleasure in her flowers and attracting hummingbirds. Her memory and ability to recall people and events was impressive. She inspired us all by keeping her sense of humour and her determination to the end.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Stan Purdy, Cedar Lake; daughters, Darlah (Bernadette MacDonald), Cedar Lake; Karen Stewart (Barry White), Cedar Lake; sons, Kendall (Norma), Truro; Gary (Margaret), Memphis TN; brothers, Roger (Shirley) Sollows, B.C.; Reginald (Charla) Sollows, St. Margaret’s Bay; sister, Judy (Gordie) Clements, Timberlea; and 9 grandchildren. Besides her parents Verna is predeceased by her son, David; brother, Kenneth; and granddaughter, Jessica. There will be no funeral or visitation by her request. Burial will take place at a later date in Port Maitland Beaver River Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Verna’s memory may be made to the Port Maitland Beaver River Cemetery, the Dialysis Unit of the Yarmouth Regional Hospital, or the Tri County V.O.N.
