It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Diane Gillis, age 67, of Glace Bay passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, with her family at her side.
Born in Halifax, Diane was the daughter of late George Sinclair Roy and Sadie (Newman) Morrison.
She was a member of St. Anthony’s Church, Glace Bay.
Diane enjoyed bingo, bowling, darts and creating crafts. She loved to cook and bake and had something sweet in the house for family and friends when they dropped in. In her earlier years she enjoyed camping. She also was a member of St. Anne’s Sodality of St. Anthony’s.
Diane will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 45 years (Aug. 5), Allan Gillis, her mother, Sadie (Newman) Morrison, daughter, Kelly (Paul) Davies, son, Allan Jr. (Jennifer), brothers, Butch Newman, all of Glace Bay, Alex Morrison, Sydney; stepsister, Isabel, Vancouver; cherished grandchildren, Crystal Gillis, Robert Gillis and Branden Davies. Also surviving are three aunts; two godchildren, Shaleen and Cory; cousins, nieces and nephews. Diane will also be truly missed by her loving four-legged K9 companion, ‘Scamp.’
Besides her father, Diane was predeceased by her stepfather, John Morrison and five stepbrothers.
Visitation for Diane Gillis will be held Saturday, 7-9 p.m. and Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m., Monday at St. Anthony’s Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall. Cremation will take place with a private family interment in the parish cemetery.
