It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jemima Penny, 84, of Sydney Mines, on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, at the Northside Community Guest Home.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was a lifetime member of branch 8 Royal Canadian Legion, Sydney Mines, as well as a longtime member of the Sydney Mines Pensioners Club and Fun Band. Jemima loved to chat on the CB Radio using the handle “Pancake.” She also enjoyed playing cards and attending bingo.
She was predeceased by her parents, John A. and Bertha MacDonald, husband, John Charles Penny, son, John ‘Snooki’ Penny, sisters, Mary, Delores and Annie Mae.
She is survived by sisters, Eileen (Norm), Theresa (Harold) and brother, Charlie; her sons, Thomas (Sharon) Penny, James (Judy) Penny; daughter, Bertha (Jim) Smith; and daughter-in-law, Mary Penny; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation today (Friday) from 7-9 p.m. only at Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Thomas John officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of one’s choice.
