Passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, on Tuesday, August 28, 2012, after a brave and short fight with cancer. She joins her beloved husband of 42 years, Patrick Joseph Derrane (2011). Loving mother of Rachel (Michael) Shaye and Sarah (Daniel) Merriam; fun-loving Grandma of Laura, Patrick, Jacob and Joseph; dear sister of Joan, Hayward, Griffin, Robert, Thomas, Lorraine and Elizabeth; loving daughter of the late Hayward and Eileen Simms. Friends may call at the Cresmount Funeral Home, “Upper James Chapel”, 1020 Upper James Street on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the A.L.S. Society of Hamilton. Special thanks to staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital for their compassionate care. Helen was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and friend. She was a devoted social worker, bridge player and a lifelong fan of the Toronto Blue Jays.
