It is with deep sadness, that we announce the peaceful passing of Joseph ‘Jookie’ MacKinnon at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital on Saturday, September 1, 2012.
Born in New Waterford and a long time resident of Pellett Avenue, Jookie was the son of the late John William and Gertrude (MacNeil) MacKinnon.
A very gentle man, Jookie could always be seen walking around town. He had many friends and enjoyed sitting and talking with them over a bottle of Pepsi. He loved watching sports, especially the Toronto Maple Leafs (his favourite player being Frank Mahovlich) and the Blue Jays.
He is survived by his two brothers, Fraser (Doreen), Bill (Hughena) and sisters, Dian (Mrs. Joe Aucoin) and Joyce (Mrs. Peter Marsh); sister-in-law, Sylvia MacKinnon and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Jookie was predeceased by his brother, Danny.
There will be no public visitation. The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Duncan Roach is Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. in Calvin United Church. Following the service, a reception will take place first in Calvin Hall and then the family will proceed to Forest Haven Memorial Gardens for interment.
Funeral Arrangements are under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford.
As an expression of sympathy for Jookie, memorial donations in his memory may be made to Ma's Kitchen, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
