James ‘Jim’ Power, 87, of Bras d’Or, passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Alder Point, he was the son of the late Peter and Sarah Jane (Dugas) Power.
Dad enjoyed many years of retirement following his long 35 plus years of service with Municipal Ready Mix. He loved building boats for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish, Bras d’Or.
Dad now joins Mom, Juanita (Colvey) predeceased 2008.
He will be sadly missed by his five children, Joseph, Guelph, Ont., James (Brenda), Bras d’Or, Rita (Brian), Florence, Mary Carew, Woodstock, Ont., and Debbie Reid, (Clint), Guelph, Ont.; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers, Wensley, Florence, Donald, North Sydney and Murdock, Mill Creek; and his sisters, Rhoda (Morrison), Delavina (Nesbit) and Jane (Cathcart), Ontario.
He was predeceased by his grandson, Courtney Reid, brothers, Joseph, Charles and Peter and sisters, Delavina, Catherine, Robina and June.
Arrangements are under the direction of Francis Funeral Home. As requested, there will be a private viewing for the family only. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Bras d’Or with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. A reception will follow in Bras d’Or Hall.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, or St. Joseph’s Parish Cemetery Fund, Bras d’Or, or to a charity of choice.
