It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear mother, Betty, 87, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, An Cala Palliative Care Unit, Sept. 15, 2012, surrounded by family.
Betty was the daughter of the late Frank and Catherine (Muise) Burns. Mom and dad operated MacLean’s Dairy on Atlantic Street, Sydney for many years. Previously, Betty worked at Smart Shop Place and service desks at K-Mart and Zellers.
Mom was renowned for her baking expertise. A comforting cup of tea, sweets and conversation were guaranteed to all who visited.
Survived by sons, Alan (Sandra) MacLean, Westmount, Ken (Melanie) MacLean, Westmount and daughter, Lynda (Peter J.) MacDonald, Ben Eoin; sister-in-law, Eileen Burns, Sydney and brother-in-law, Ted (Rita) MacLean, Kitchener, Ont. Cherished grandchildren, Lisa (Timmy) Sullivan, Sydney River, Tracey (Bruce) Briggs, Langley, B.C., Chad (Lisa Marie) MacDonald, Halifax, Logan (Leigha) MacDonald, St. Jean, Que., Cody, Ryan and Kelsey MacLean; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Amanda and Bailee Sullivan; Keagan and Jordyn Briggs. Loved and missed by several very special nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by husband, Hector ‘Heckie’; beloved sisters, Mary MacDonald, Montreal, Frances (John) MacDonald, Sydney, Pearl (Vernon) Blois, Waverley and brother, Edgar Burns, Sydney.
Betty was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
As per their request, mom and dad have both donated their remains for medical research to the Faculty of Medicine, Dalhousie. There will be no visitation.
Special thanks to RNs, Linda Murphy, Debra Wingate and the staff of An Cala Palliative Care Unit, Home Care Program, VON staff, Beth Latham, Jeanette MacDonald, Dr. Tobin, Dr. Sampson, family friend, Dr. Murdock Smith and staff of Miners’ Memorial Manor; also to mom’s friends, Lucy, Joan, Evelyn, Ross and Mary as well as Kaye, Rocky, Joyann, John-Alan, Susan, Rod and Blair, who loved and were always there for mom.
In memoriam donations may be made to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, SPCA or charity of one’s choice.
