Muriel Hayes Swetnam

Muriel (Mornie) Hayes Swetnam (nee Crease) age 97 of Halifax, NS passed away peacefully on Oct 6, 2012 at Bradford Hall, Parkland Estates, Halifax. Born in Amherst, NS in 1915 she was the daughter of Mary Maude (Hayes) and Albert James Crease. She is survived by her daughter Joan (Swetnam) Reeves, son-in-law Donald Reeves, son David Swetnam, daughter-in-law Margot (Nugent) Swetnam and their children Kate, Heather, Ben and Rachael. She was predeceased by husband Ralph Swetnam, brother Charles Crease and sisters Avice Crease, Ruth Fraser, and Helen Andison. “She was a sweetheart” is the phrase most used to describe “Ma” as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren. During her life she was active playing badminton, golf and curling. Until recently she was a member of the Halifax Ladies Music Club and St. Mathias Hazel Paul group in which she held several positions over the years. A good game of bridge could always be found, both in her home with Ralph, and latterly at Parkland with the girls. “A lady until the end” and one of the last of her generation, she was an institution at her 104 year old cottage at Amherst Shore where a loud “Razzle Dazzle Hobble Gobble” will resound in Heaven upon her arrival. Visitation will take place from 6pm - 8pm on Friday Oct. 12 at the Atlantic Funeral home 6552 Bayers Rd. Halifax, and at Campbells Funeral Home in Amherst Sat. Oct 13 from 1pm until 3pm. Committal will follow in ChristChurch cemetery Amherst. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be sent by visiting our Halifax Chapel at: www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com
