Passed on: October 8th, 2012

The family of Ellen Johnston, age 68, of Birch Hills, Saskatchewan regretfully announces her peaceful passing in Saskatoon University Hospital on October 8, 2012 after a courageous three year battle with cancer. Ellen was born in Birch Hills on April 8, 1944 to Jack and Joy Johnston and resided there all her life. She graduated from Prince Albert Business College and worked many years for Nor-Can Air, then Sanderson Law Offices and other legal firms in Prince Albert. Ellen was an active member of Birch Hills United Church and sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and was a loyal member of the UCW. Ellen was always more concerned about others than self and was content to help and serve without recognition. She loved to travel and enjoyed numerous trips to England, Hawaii, Australia, and, more recently, winter trips to Arizona to spend time with her brother Marshall and his wife. She was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Joy and will be lovingly remembered by her brother Marshall (Barbara) of Bemidji, MN, nieces, Jill (Alan) Hatfield, Minneapolis, MN, Amy (Stephen) Spiridakis, Tarrytown, NY and their children Hudson, Fisher, Charlotte and Luke and numerous friends in Birch Hills and Prince Albert. Per Ellen’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be a graveside service on Saturday, October 13th at 1 PM at Birch Hills Cemetery with Duane Mohn officiating, followed by refreshments and fellowship at The Birch Hills United/ Lutheran church. In lieu of tributes, the family prefers memorials in Ellen’s name be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements in care of Northern Funeral Service, MacKenzie Chapel.
