Born June 21, 1930 at Doon, Tralee, Co. Kerry, Ireland, Dad told many stories of his school days, his handball and Gaelic football exploits, and his early working days at Traly Footwear. He was admitted an Associate of the British Boot and Shoe Institution in Northampton, England, and received the Swaysland Commemoration Diploma for Excellence, a source of great pride. He worked for many years as a shoe designer and factory manager in England, Ireland and Canada. Retiring from Hartt Shoes in Fredericton, he spent happy years visiting his children across Canada, and returning regularly to Ireland. He taught his grandchildren to play a mean game of crib, and delighted in family games.
