Ruth Mary Archibald, 92, of Union Street, Sydney, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, at the Cove Guest Home in Sydney.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Archibald and Margaret (MacSween) Matheson.
Residing here all of her life, she attended local business college and worked at the dock office prior to marrying Robert and raising her family. Ruth was a dedicated member of St. Andrews United Church and over the years, has been active in many aspects of the church community. Singing in the choir was always one of her most favorite pastimes in the church.
She will be sadly missed by her devoted sister, Georgie; brother, Donald (Jean); children, John (Bev), Jane Lockhart (Lewis) and David; grandchildren, John Robert (Candice), Alison, Matthew, Mark (Anne), Rob (Julia) and Laura; great-grandchildren, Alexander and Cameron; and nieces and nephews, Carolyn, Ruth, Stuart and Scott.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Robert James Archibald; sister, Katherine and brothers, Donald, in infancy, Neil (Ella) and Hugh. 
There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012. Following the service, a private family gathering, for interment, will be held at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all of Ruth’s many friends for their ongoing support and especially, to the entire staff of the Cove Guest Home for the wonderful care Ruth received while in residence there. 
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
