It is with broken hearts and deep regret that we, the family, announce the passing of our dear mother and grandmother, Gladys on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at the Taigh Solas, Northside General Hospital, North Sydney, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Bond) Thompson.
She was employed with the Mercy Hospital for unwed mothers, as well as a housekeeper for many years.
Gladys was a member St. Joseph’s parish, the CWL, the Elks Club, Club 55 and the Royal Canadian Legion branch 12.
She was a hard worker and enjoyed spending time with her family.
Gladys enjoyed many things such as darts, bowling, playing cards, baking, cooking, knitting, and being with her favourite companion, Peppy.
She is survived by her nine children, Josephine (Ron) Watson, Ontario, Delores Melong, Harbour Boucher, Frances (Paul) Mullins, Catalone, Theresa (Joe) Cameron, Sydney, Mae (Gordie) Buist, Mira, Charlie (Janice) Thompson, Ontario, John (Millie) MacInnis, New Victoria, George (Kerrie Ann) MacInnis, Sydney, Joseph (Barbara) MacInnis, Sydney; her wonderful 25 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Marie Rannie, Frances Thompson, Mary (Donnie) MacKinnon, Peter, Gordie (Catherine), all of Sydney, Allie, B.C.; three sisters-in-law, Emily Butler, Sydney, Ethel Doncaster, Cobourg, Ont., Elsa MacInnis, Newfoundland; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Michael ‘Mickey,’ grandson, Steven MacInnis, sisters, Jennie Hoban, Alice Sutherland, Ida Sedore, Helen Donovan, brothers, Charlie, Jimmy and George.
Visitation will be held (today) Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral mass will take place 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at St. Joseph’s Church with Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating. Reception to follow in the church foyer. Burial will take place at a later date.
