It is with great sadness that we announce Ben’s passing on Oct. 31, 2012, at home surrounded by his loving family in Halifax after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in North Sydney, Ben was a son of the late Benjamin and Beatrice (Pyke) Robinson of North Sydney.
Raised in North Sydney, Ben lived a busy work life, while taking great pride in the time he spent with his family and friends. In his early years he worked as a coal miner, salesman, and manager of Alteen’s Jewelers in North Sydney. Later in life, he was the owner/operator of Benny’s Dairy on Brook Street in North Sydney, and then as a Course Marshall at the Bell Bay Golf Club in Baddeck. His outgoing character saw him involved in various sports and community work. He served as town councilor and deputy mayor for the Town of North Sydney. Ben enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the game of hockey and spent many years playing and coaching. He was recently inducted into the Northside Sports Hall of Fame as a player with the Northside Franklins as well as the Combines. His involvement with curling and golf, as well as his memberships with the Kinsmen and Lion’s Club, has given him many lasting friendships.
Ben is survived by his loving wife, Ann (Goss) Robinson, and children, Stewart, Halifax, Paula (Paul) Hartigan, Halifax, Cynthia (Gary) Boutilier, Little Pond; his grandsons, Liam and Kyle Hartigan, Benjamin and Garret Boutilier; his sisters, Edith MacAulay, Halifax, Pauline (Allister) Boyd, Kitimat, B.C., Patricia (Dave) Boutilier, Sydney Mines; sister-in-law, Mary Johnston (Goss), Halifax as well as many nieces and nephews.
