Allan Hackett

HACKETT, ALLAN - Surrounded by his family, Capt. Allan John Hackett passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at the Oromocto Public Hospital. Allan was born in Halifax on November 7, 1944 and was the son of the late Gerald and Frances (Brown) Hackett. Allen was raised in the Miramichi and known to many as "Al". At the young age of 18 Al joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and continued on with his career until his retirement in 1988. He came out of retirement and became a Recruiting Officer in Saint John for the Canadian Armed Forces. As time went on he decided to try his hand in the pizza business and went on to become Manager of a Pizza Delight restaurant in Saint John. After this, he then became a Commissionaire for the city and after handing out enough parking tickets and tiring of city life he returned to the Miramichi and joined his brother in running an antique shop. Al put his talents to good use and could turn an old piece of furniture into a beautiful masterpiece. Al was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 93, Oromocto. In his earlier years, Al enjoyed playing bridge, cribbage, pool and curling. As he began to take life a little easier, he enjoyed walking the two dogs with his soul mate, Irene, attending yard sales, watching game shows and loved a good book. Allan is survived by his wife, Irene (Storey) Hackett of Lincoln, NB; one daughter, Jennifer Crook (Yvon) of Shediac, NB; two sons, Dr. Jeffrey Hackett of Victoria, BC and Jason Hackett of Miramichi, NB; two step daughters, Sherry Bruce (Troy) of Tatis River, NB and Vera Davis (Brian) of Sylvan Lake, AB; two grandchildren, eight step grandchildren and seven step great grandchildren; five sisters, Betty Novinscak (David) of Fredericton, NB, Patricia Preater (Randy) of Ottawa, ON, Jean O'Neill (Donald) of Miramichi, NB, Katherine Martin (Ti) of Miramichi, NB, and Charlotte Casey (Ray) of Miramichi, NB; three brothers, Donald Hackett of Miramichi, NB, Tim Hackett (Shelley) of Miramichi, NB and Tom Hackett (Darlene) of Toronto, ON; several nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his first wife, Sharon Lee; a brother, Curry; a nephew, Gerald; and a step grandson, Matt. The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care that Al received from the doctors and nurses at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital and the Oromocto Public Hospital.
