It is with heavy hearts the family announce that John Hugh ‘Jackie’ Beaton, 74 of Carefield Manor Guest Home, formerly of 384 Townsend St., and also a long time resident of Sydney’s North End passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney on Nov. 3, 2012, surrounded by family.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late William James and Theresa (Donnelly) Beaton.
Jackie was a member of Sacred Heart parish and was also a member of Club 55 and the Sydney Pensioners Club. In his earlier years, Jackie was a skilled hockey player and continued to love the sport as a New York Rangers fan. He was also an avid dart player for several years, and loved the sport of harness racing.
Jackie is survived by his sons, Jackie, Glen (MaryAnn), both of Sydney, Joey (Cathy) of Florence; grandchildren, Kolton, Larissa, Jeffery; great-granddaughter, Emma-Jade; siblings, Kenneth (Florence), Robert (Joanne), Sydney, Arthur, Montreal, Beverly (Mike) Dinn, Barbara (John) Bagnell, Ontario, Judy Beaton (Jack Eddy), Sydney; sister-in-law, Sheila Beaton, Sydney; brother-in-law, Ike Ruthven, B.C.; and friend, Louise, Sydney.
He was predeceased by his parents; his son, Shaun; daughter, Janice Elizabeth; sister, Evelyn; brother, Jimmy; sister-in-law, Josie; nieces, Maureen, Heather; nephew, Brian.
Respecting Jackie’s wishes, there will be no visitation; cremation has taken place under the direction of T. W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Church on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Conrad Edwards officiating. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Carefield Manor, 1 Dryden Ave., Sydney, (former radar base) or a charity of your choice.
