John James 'Smitty' Smith

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John James Smith of 130 Reeves St., Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late John and Elsie Smith.
Smitty served in the Second World War, then after the war proceeded to work at the Sydney Steel Plant until his retirement. He was also a member of the Branch 12 Legion, Sydney. Smitty greatly enjoyed shooting darts at the legion, and playing cards with all his friends on Reeves Street.
We would like to thank Parker, who was Smitty best friend as well as his caregiver, the private staff and Breton Caregivers who over the years took great care of him. Special thanks to his friends at Reeves Street who he cared a great deal for.
Smitty is survived by nieces and one nephew.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Philip and sister, Agnes Myatt.
As per Smitty’s request, cremation has taken place and a legion service be held  at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney.
