It is with profound sadness, that we announce the peaceful passing of Kathleen Marie Kennedy on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, Kay was the daughter of the late John and Sara (MacDougall) McPhee.
At one time, Kay taught school in South Head, Wadden’s Cove. She was a very kind-hearted lady who deeply enjoyed reading and playing a good game of bingo. Kay was also a very patient woman who tutored many children in Donkin.
She is survived by her children, John (Yvonne), Homeville, Hugh (Bernice), Donkin, Greg (Monica), Windsor, Ont., Sally (Alan), Truro; and her brothers, Hugh McPhee and Danny (Catherine) Gillis. Kay is survived by grandchildren, Rob, Ian, Todd, Melissa, and her great-grandchildren, Niskha and Cynthia.
Kay was predeceased by her husband, John Robert Kennedy (September, 1967) and siblings, Lizzie, Annie, Frank, Malcolm, Gerard, Norman and Allan. She spent the last few years in the loving care of the staff of Harbourstone Enhanced Care.
There will be no visitation. The funeral mass, officiated by Kay’s cousin, Fr. Norman McPhee is Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay. A reception will follow in the church foyer. Interment will be held in St. Luke’s United Cemetery, Donkin.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
As an expression of sympathy for Kay, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Diabetic Association.
