Margaret Alice Bishop - 92, of New Minas, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at home. Born in New Minas, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Jessie (Bishop) Phelan. She had been a homemaker and was a member of the New Minas Baptist Church for over 75 years. At the age of 45, she became a member of the KenWo Golf and Country Club where she won a Senior Ladies Championship and had also won a Nova Scotia Senior Ladies Championship. She later became a life member of KenWo and played on the Nova Scotia Senior Ladies Team for many years. Margaret was an avid bowler and was a member of several leagues at Fairlanes in New Minas. She volunteered with Meals-on-Wheels and other organizations in New Minas. She is survived by two sons, Richard (Alberta), New Minas; Walter (Mary), Camrose, Alberta and Arizona; four granddaughters, Theresa (Kelly), Kathy (Martin) and Debbie (Ron), all of Alberta; Charlene (Sherman), Gaspereau; seven great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Clyde; a sister, Annie Eagles; a brother, Donald. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, November 25, 2012 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 26, 2012 in the New Minas Baptist Church, Reverend Sterling Gosman officiating. Burial took place in the Willowbank Cemetery, Wolfville. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
