Harold Taylor, age 71 of Bay Street, Glace Bay, passed away on Thursday, November 22nd, 2012 at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, Harold was the son of the late Kenneth and Lillian (Boyd) Taylor.
Harold joined the military at a young age and was a member of the Black Watch in Gagetown. After the services, he was employed as a meat cutter and general manager of the meat department at the Red and White Store in Glace Bay. He retired from the Commissionaires of Nova Scotia, last serving at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital. Harold was a member of the RCL, Branch 3, Glace Bay and in his younger days was an avid CB’er. Fly fishing, fly tying and carpentry work were all hobbies Harold truly enjoyed. But mostly, Harold will be remembered as a very gentle, compassionate family man.
Harold is survived by three sons, Harold (Alice), Halifax, Paul, Allan (Casey), both in Ontario; one daughter, Ann Winters, Glace Bay; three brothers, Allister Taylor (Harriet), Freddie (Sharon), Donnie, all in Ontario; eight grandchildren, Natasha, James, Mackenzie, Sarah, Megan, Jordan, Devynn and Bronson.
Harold will be sadly missed by his brother-in-law, Paul Chaisson (Rita), Glace Bay.
Harold was predeceased by his wife, Catherine (Chaisson) Taylor; a sister, Ethel; brother, David; father and mother-in-law, Alex and Sadie Chaisson and a son-in-law, Peter Winters.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Father Leo Boone is Monday morning at 10 a.m. in St. Anne's Church followed by a reception in the church foyer. Interment will be held in the parish cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy for Harold, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Breast Cancer Association of Nova Scotia.
Veterans and legion members will form an honour guard at St. Anne's Church to pay tribute to their fallen comrade.
