Frederick 'Fred' Baker

Frederick Baker age 91, a former resident of May Street, Scotchtown, passed away on Friday, November 30th, 2012 at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay.
Born in Prince Edward Island, he was the son of the late Arthur Warren and Viola (Spanks) Baker.
Fred worked in the coal mines then retired to his summer home in the Bras d’Or Lakes. He loved gardening, skating and collecting antiques. Fred was a very kind and caring father, husband, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be very sadly missed. Fred was a member of Calvin United Church.
He is survived by his son, Sam, Grand Mira North; daughters, Barbara Brown (companion, Wilfred Cooke) and Alice Newman (John Newman) of New Waterford. Fred is survived by five grandchildren, Brian, Jason, John, Jeffery, Jennifer; three great grandchildren, Kimberly, Landon, Abby; one sister, Lillian (Howard Hart), Guysborough; three brothers, Leslie (Audrey), Peggy’s Cove, William and Bernard of New Waterford and many nieces and nephews.
Fred was predeceased by his loving wife, Isabel (Gouthro) Baker and one sister, Muriel, Mrs. Archie Kearney.
No visitation. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith St. New Waterford. Rev. Duncan Roach will officiate.
As an expression of sympathy for Fred, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Nova Scotia.
