It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend, on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Sydney Mines and a longtime resident of Heelan Street, New Waterford, Claire was the daughter of the late Daniel and Maise (Hall) MacVarish.
She was a graduate of New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, where she worked for over 40 years. She was a member of St. Leonard’s parish, an avid walker, skater and bridge player. Claire had a great sense of humour.
Surviving are husband, Joseph ‘Jody’; daughters, Patricia (Glenn Wainman), Victoria, B.C, Maureen, Cole Harbour, N.S.; sons, Donnie (Gwen), Kingston, N.S., Billy (Linda), New Waterford; and a sister, Yvonne Gow, Vancouver, B.C. Claire was a loving grandmother to Nicole, Janet, Karen, Jodi, Cotter, Callum, Alison, Leah, Celeste, Daniel, Peter, Nick and Danielle and great-grandmother to Olivia, Emmy, Bella, Lily, Claire and Samuel.
Claire was predeceased by a sister, Patricia McDowell and a daughter-in-law, Carlie, wife of Don Ellsworth, and a brother, Gregory in infancy.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Ray Huntley is Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in St. Leonard’s Church followed by interment in Mount Carmel Cemetery. All are invited to join the family for a reception at St. Leonard’s hall on Convent Street, New Waterford.
As an expression of sympathy for Claire, memorial donations in her memory may be made to Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford.
