Fabian MacLean, 71, Walkerville, formerly of Creignish, passed away Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by love.
Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late Bernie and Margaret ‘Peggy’ (MacNeil) MacLean.
At the age of 17, he began a machinist apprenticeship with the Dominion Coal Company, Glace Bay and later moved to Port Hawkesbury, where he was employed with Stora until retirement. He was a member of Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Creignish. Fabian enjoyed sports, coaching little league baseball and bowling. He was an ardent supporter of the Toronto Blue Jays. One of his greatest enjoyments was dancing. Fabian was a man of faith, who believed that “life is a journey that is homeward bound”. At rest at last, for Fabian, “life has changed, not ended”.
Fabian is survived by his loving wife, Martha Feit; son, Dana MacLean, Port Hawkesbury; grandson, “the love of his life”, Alec MacLean and his mother, Vanessa Sully, Truro; beautiful granddaughter, Jadea MacNeil and her mother, Shauna MacNeil, Port Hawkesbury; brother, Neil (Brenda) MacLean, Sun City, Fla.; Bernie (Sharon) McLean, Port Hawkesbury; stepchildren, Darrell (Rosalind) Feit, Lynn (Jim) Duggan, Craig (Angie) Feit, Walkerville; step-grandchildren, Jillian and Jenna Duggan, Heidi and Lindsay Feit; former wife, Marie Cameron and her siblings; numerous nieces and nephews; best friends, A.J. (Debbie) MacRae, Creignish.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Theresa ‘Tessie’ Curtis.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday in Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Creignish with Fr. Hughie D. MacDonald officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery at a later date.
Donations may be made in Fabian’s memory to Aberdeen Palliative Care Society, New Glasgow.
