PHYLLIS COLLVER

Passed on: December 5th, 2012

Our mom, grandma, sister and auntie passed away peacefully in her home on December 5, 2012. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 40 years, Russell, her dad and mom, Lavina and Roy Hinchliff and her brothers, Allen Hinchliff and Keith Hinchliff, her brothers and sister-in-law Malcolm Collver, Betty and John Gowan and Paul Overgaard. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law Kelly Collver and Rhonda and Allen Wills and her grandsons Patrick and Ross Wills. She also leaves to mourn her brother and other in-laws Clarence and Muriel Hinchliff, Joy Hinchliff, Helen Overgaard, Ross and Bonnie Collver, Grace Collver and numerous nieces and nephews. Phyllis was born February 7, 1930, on her parent’s farm near Ruthilda, Saskatchewan. Chasing after her two older brothers instilled a love of the outdoors, which she cultivated all of her life. At a young age, she loved riding Shorty, her horse, proudly recalls being coached in baseball by Gordie Howe, she was an accomplished pianist and an avid curler. She moved to Saskatoon to finish high school, worked in a furniture store and took secretarial training. In 1952, she met Russell, the love of her life. When he was transferred to Aylmer, Ontario with the Air Force, she followed and they were married in 1954. They moved to Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, where Phyllis worked as a secretary for several years until Rhonda was born in 1958, followed by Kelly in 1961. Over the next several years, the family moved to Angus, Camp Borden and Ottawa, Ontario, and finally to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. There, Phyllis upgraded her secretarial skills and became an administrative assistant for the Flight School at CFB Moose Jaw. In retirement, she and Russell were able to spend several winter holidays in Arizona and elsewhere, always willing to try out a new golf course. Mom was always there to look after her husband, daughters, grandsons, family and friends. Until a few years ago, she was still using her snow-blower to help clear snow for her neighbors. She enjoyed her garden, sewing, dancing, bridge and golf with friends, and always had a good book on-the-go. A Celebration of Phyllis’ life will be held at W.J. Jones & Son Chapel, on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Della Ferguson will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations, in Phyllis’ name, to the Saskatchewan Heart & Stroke Foundation 279 3rd Ave N., Saskatoon, SK S7K 2H8or a charity of your choice are most welcome.
