Barbara MacLeod
Born In: Port Morien, Nova Scotia, Canada
Born: December 21st, 1940
Passed on: December 16th, 2012
With great sadness we announce the passing of Barbara Lillian MacLeod on Dec. 16, 2012.
Born and raised in Port Morien, she raised her own family in Port Caledonia and moved to Glace Bay following the death of her husband.
She was the daughter of late John and Freda (Clements) Hawes.
She was predeceased by her husband, William MacLeod and sister, Bernice (James Parsons).
Her passing has left a void in the lives of her daughter Lynn, son-in-law Henry and cherished grandchildren Emily, Victoria and Colin Rosta, Broughton Road; son Bruce, Halifax; and sister Anne (Donald Eagles) Ontario.
Barbara and her husband Bill were a fixture on Dearn’s Corner where they operated MacLeod’s Service Station together for over 20 years. She was a member of the Sydney and Glace Bay art groups, St. Mary’s Craft Club, was a volunteer art instructor at Seaview Manor and a volunteer at Gowrie school. She was a past member of St. Luke’s Anglican Guild, a member of St. Luke’s Anglican Church and a member of Newsom choir.
The outstanding care given by her many family members and friends allowed her to stay at home until the last day of her illness, something her family is eternally grateful for. Although she fought hard and wasn’t ready to leave, she left this earthly life with absolutely no fear, sure in the knowledge that a better life awaited her.
Funeral will be held at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Port Caledonia, on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Vernon Reid officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Patten Funeral Home, Glace Bay.
Memorial donations can be made to St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Newsom United Church, palliative-care unit, or Cancer Care Fund.
