It is with great sadness that we the family of Jamie Mercer announce his passing on Monday December 17, 2012. The angles took our sweet, brave son, brother and uncle home after his courageous battle with cancer. Jamie was a kind and gentle man who loved his family, and was such a blessing to us and all who knew him. Born in Sydney on April 17th, 1959, Jamie was the son of Genevieve Mercer (Hiscock) and the late James Mercer.
Jamie was deeply loved and will be forever missed by his mother Genevieve Mercer, his sisters Donna (Jimmy) Polegato and Yvonne (Daniel) Sinclair, his brothers David (Karen) Mercer (all of Alberta), Roger Mercer of Sydney, his many nieces and nephews and his very special “Byng Avenue Family”. When we think and speak of Jamie we will always remember him as a loving, caring and faithful man. Jamie held ill-will toward no one, and in his last days showed such optimism, courage and strength. We are so proud of Jamie. His brother David said it best, “Jamie, you’re our Hero. “
The family would like to thank the Palliative Care Unit of CBRH for taking such wonderful care of Jamie. We would also like to thank the many friends and family members living in Cape Breton for their care and support during these last months. We wish to express a very special thank you to Harry and Mary Rocket for the love, support and kindness they showed to Jamie. There really are no words to express our thanks and gratitude for all you have done for Jamie. Your kindness will never be forgotten. You were with our brother when we could not be.
There will be no visitation, and a memorial service to celebrate Jamie’s life will be held at a later date to be announced by his family.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or the Canadian Cancer Society.
