Sr. Mary (Sr. St. James the Saviour) Strachan

It is with deep regret that we, the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame, announce the peaceful passing of Sr. Mary Strachan at our CND Health Care, Sydney, on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012.
Sister was born in Mulgrave, N.S. in 1926, the daughter of the late John Strachan and Clara MacMillan.
She entered the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame in 1947 and was professed in 1949. She served many years as a very dedicated elementary school teacher. Her love for teaching enriched and enhanced the lives of her students. During her teaching years she ministered in Pictou, Antigonish, Inverness and Sydney.
Sr. Mary is survived by two sisters, Clara (Larry) Murphy and Nora Taplin, also many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers, John C. ‘Buddy,’ Duncan, James and Walter.
Visitation will be Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel with a Bible Vigil at 7:30 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday in Holy Redeemer Church, Sydney, with Rev. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
