Lorne Wortman

WORTMAN, LORNE DOUGLAS - Lorne D. Wortman, 80, of Moncton, passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital on December 26, 2012. Born in Shediac Cape, he was the son of the late Alfred and Mildred (Hoyt) Wortman. Lorne was the owner/operator of Wortman Enterprises Ltd. for over 35 years. He was an avid badminton player, former NB Badminton Champion, First President of the NB Badminton Association, Past President of the Canadian Badminton Association and was Canada's representative to the International Badminton Federation. He was also inducted into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame in the Builders Category for badminton in 2009. Lorne enjoyed playing golf, was a football and hockey fan (Montreal Canadiens), member of the Petitcodiac Golf and Country Club and member of the Moncton Elks Club and enjoyed socializing with his friends and spending precious time with his family. Lorne will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 61 years, Marjorie (Murray) Wortman; his children, Stephen Wortman (Lana) of Fredericton, Christine Wortman of Moncton, Brent Wortman (Susan) of Chelsea, PQ, Neil Wortman (Renita) of Hammonds Plains, NS, Margo Greene (Phillip) of Riverview and Amy Bradbury (Scott) of Timberlea, NS; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Kathleen Dandurand (Jean) of Dorval, PQ; brother, Donald Wortman (Barb) of Riverview; several nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to his parents, Lorne was predeceased by his brother, Fred; and sister, Marjorie Smith.
In honouring Lorne’s wishes, no visitation hours. Funeral Service to be held at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home Chapel, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 1:30 pm with the Reverend Chris VanBuskirk officiating. Reception in the Funeral Home Reception Centre following the service. Interment to be held at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lorne’s memory made to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital or a memorial of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
