
Mary 'Bunny' Bond

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother. Mary Bernadette Bond age 86 formerly of New Aberdeen passed away on Christmas Day 2012 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in North Sydney, Bunny was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Anne (Somers) Bates.
She was a former member of St. John's the Baptist Church, New Aberdeen and later, St. Anne's Church, Glace Bay. Bunny was an active member of the St. Anne's Solidarity Society and CWL at St. John's Church. Over the years she was a foster mother to 63 children and established a very special bond with these children. Her home was filled with love. Bunny was a recipient of a plaque from Child Welfare honoring her for her dedication and compassion she devoted to the many children she fostered.
Bunny will be sadly missed by her loving children, daughter, Terry (Lloyd) Wadden, Glace Bay; sons, Budd, Toronto, Keith, Mill Cove, N.S.; brother, Ferdy Bates, St. Catherine's, Ont.; three cherished grandchildren, Janice (Casey), Gerald (Tammy), Sonam; five great grandchildren, Corina, Brady, Taylor, Riley, Anisley. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Bunny was predeceased by her loving husband, Frank; sisters, Eileen, Emerita ‘Em’, and one in infancy; brothers, Albert, Joe, Gerard ‘Yardy’ and Bill.
Visitation for Bunny will be held 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. on Friday, December 28, 2012 in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at St. Anne's Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the church foyer.
Donations in Bunny's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Society, charity of choice or a mass to be offered in her name.
