It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of our brother William ‘Billy’ Francis Nightingale at home on December 25, 2012. A lifetime resident of Hillside Avenue in Glace Bay, Billy was the son of the late Veronica (MacInnis) and Kit Nightingale.
Billy was a member of Branch 3 Royal Canadian Legion, Glace Bay. He proudly served with the Royal Canadian Engineers in Germany, Cyprus and Canada. Billy was a valuable member of the Wednesday Night Crib League at Branch 3 Legion. A spirited and dedicated Habs fan, a caring friend, a dear brother and uncle, his quick wit and sense of humor will be missed by all of his friends and family.
He is survived by his brothers Angus, Glendale, Robert ‘Bobby’, Glace Bay, David ‘Beaver’ (Becky) Sydney, James ‘Jimmy’ (Shelly) Manitoba, Karl (Pat) Dartmouth, Daniel (Carol) Grand Greve, Johnny ‘Bear’ (Sherry) Red Deer, Raymond, Red Deer, Thomas ‘Topper’ (Corrine) Glace Bay and sisters Claire (Stan) Chipman, Dominion, Florence (Donald) MacNeil (Big Pond/Glace Bay), Patricia (Jim) Cumminger, Victoria, BC; many nieces, nephews and their families as well as his best fur-friend ‘Bandit’.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 2, from 7-9 p.m. in Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 3, at 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church. The Rev. Leo Boone will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Billy’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice or Branch 3 Royal Canadian Legion, Glace Bay.
