Ethel May Wynn Bird Courtney

Ethel May Wynn Bird Courtney

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the
passing of our adored mother, Ethel Courtney, on January 1, 2013. Mom
has gone to be with her beloved husband, Don, who she has missed
dearly since his death at the end of April. Ethel passed away
peacefully at home, with her children by her side.

Ethel May Wynn Bird was born to Charles and Margaret Bird of
Stratford, Ontario, on Nov. 4, 1930. She was the youngest sister to
Bailey, Pearl and John; all have predeceased her. Ethel was a great
friend to Don¹s siblings as well as her in-laws, Irene Bird, Allan
Tyndall and Delores Bird and will be missed greatly by all of them,
along with her many nieces and nephews.
Ethel married Donald Courtney on June 25th, 1955. Mom made her six
children her life. She engrained in us life¹s most important lessons
and the finest of family values. Mom will be missed tremendously by
her children and their
spouses: Lorie and Mike Brooks, Christine and Tony Wing, Joanne
Courtney and Wayne Sexton, Donald and Brenda Courtney and David and
Carolyn Courtney, and all her 9 grandchildren and 5 great
grandchildren. Her son, Chuck and grandson, Bradley Brooks were
waiting with Dad, to be reunited with Mom in their eternal lives.
Ethel made many precious friendships as she travelled the country with
Dad;
Don moved often in his career. Once a friend, always a friend to Mom. She was indeed sad to leave many friends behind and they will miss her
dearly.
Thank you, Dr. Brian Wilson, for 10 years of outstanding, compassionate
care. Thanks also to the exceptional PSWs and nurses (from Dufferin
County
Bayshore Palliative Care); Cecilia and Christine, Rhonda and Yasmin for
treating our mother with great dignity and in assisting us in keeping our
mother at home til the end.
Donations can be made, in lieu of flowers, to Pancreatic Cancer of Canada
(in honor of Ethel¹s husband). In memory of Ethel, please visit
