It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother and grandmother, Irene Turner, at the Cove Guest Home on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Port Morien on Sept. 8, 1929, she resided in Homeville until 2009, then she spent a year in Alderwood Guest Home in Baddeck before being transferred to the Cove.
Irene was the daughter of the late Charles and Sadie (Holmes) Shepard of Port Morien.
In her early years she was employed by Eatons, Hopkins Fish Plant and Shores Grocery.
She had a unique sense of humour and enjoyed socializing. She was a homemaker and provided a loving home for her family. Her grandchildren were her greatest pride and joy. She loved them dearly.
She was a member of St. John’s United Church, Port Morien, and member of the church choir. She was also a member of the Homeville Women’s Institute for many years.
Irene is the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Irene is survived by son, Scott; daughters, Glenda (Darrell) Jones and Laurie Ann (Charlie Burns); cherished grandchildren, Darrell, Elissa, Laura Leigh and Brittany and two great-grandchildren, Cayden and Ethan.
Besides her parents, Irene was predeceased by husband, Douglas, brothers, Herbie, Albert and Angus, two sisters in infancy and also in-laws, Alvin and Laura Turner.
We would like to thank the staff of both the Alderwood and Cove Guest Homes for the wonderful care she received.
