Edith Mae Fraser Devoe

Born In: Mill Creek
Born: August 1st, 1915

Passed on: January 14th, 2013

At the age of 97, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Edith Mae Fraser passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at her place of residence, Miner’s Memorial Manor in Sydney Mines.
Born in Mill Creek, Aug. 1, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary (MacNeil) Jessome.
She was a dedicated member of St. Anne parish, Alder Point; a member of the St. Anne Society, and enjoyed time spent at the Bras d’Or Pensioners Club.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She may have been a small lady, but sure was mighty in heart and soul. She lived her life unselfishly, always ready and willing to help others. She was even known to lend a helping hand as a midwife, delivering not only her own six babies, but numerous others as well. She devoted her early years of life helping her husband, as he was paralyzed in a mining accident.
In her spare time she did factory work, and at the young age of 60, she decided to get her driver’s licence. The roads were never the same as she drove with her sun hat on, and the wind at her back. She had a great sense of humour, and enjoyed sharing it with others.
She leaves behind to mourn her children, daughter, Mary (Rod) MacInnis, New Minas, N.S.; sons, Ron, David (Joan) and Walter (Elaine); 18 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Edith was predeceased by her first husband, John Fraser, second husband, Harold Devoe, and sons, Bernard and Alexander.
A very special thank you to our family member and friend Millie for all the visits and time spent with her.
Thank you also to the nursing staff at the Miner’s Memorial Manor as she adored each and every one of you. She will always be your mascot.
Visitation for Edith Devoe will be held in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of her life will take place Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anne Church, Alder Point, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. Burial in St.Joseph Cemetery Bras d’Or.
Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
