Phyllis Winnifred Samson, 77, St. Peter’s, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Donald H. and Ruth (Phillips) MacIntyre and stepmother, the late Kaye (Pyne) MacIntyre.
In 1957, she married her husband, Finley Samson. They moved to Brooksville, Fla., where they made their home for 43 and half years. While there she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she was an elder, Sunday school teacher and member of the Presbyterian Women’s Circles.
She was an employee of Publix Supermarkets for 30 years, retiring in 1988.
In 2001, they moved back to Nova Scotia and made their home in St. Peter’s, Richmond County. There she was a member of St. Peter’s United Church and UCW, Bonnie Brae Seniors Club. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting and working with crafts.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Finley Samson; sisters, Louise Glasgow, Sydney, Ruthie (Alex) Smith, South Lake Ainslie; brother, Donnie (Sandra) MacIntyre, New Boston Road, Louisbourg; stepbrothers, William (Rene) MacIntyre, Balls Creek, Kevin (Darlene) Beaver, Sydney; sister-in-law, Sr. Theresa Sampson CND, Sydney; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by stepbrother, Allister MacIntyre, brothers-in-law, Herbert, Burt and Lee Sampson, Ray Glasgow.
Special thanks to the nurses and staff of Strait Richmond Hospital, Evantson, and staff and doctors of St. Martha’s Regional Hospital and also the paramedics.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Wednesday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 26 Centennial St., St. Peter’s. Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Thursday from St. Peter’s United Church, St. Peter’s with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, De Raymond St., St. Peter’s.
