Annie Maud Fraser
The family of Annie Maud Fraser, RN announce her passing on January 16, 2013 at The Mira Longterm Care Facility in Truro, NS. Formerly of Halifax, Annie was born July 15, 1917 in St John's, NL to Kenneth and Dorothy (Wiseman) Day. She received her education at The Model School and Memorial University in St John's NL. She had a minor teaching certificate and took a business course before entering The School of Nursing at the Halifax Children's Hospital, (now the IWK) and graduated in 1948. She worked in most of the Halifax hospitals, and was one of the original staff members of The Nova Scotia Hearing and Speech Clinic from where she retired in 1995 at the age of 78 after 32 years as the ENT nurse. She was predeceased by husband Ross Alfred Fraser and her sisters Glad and Effie and brothers Joe and Heber. She is survived by her only child Judy MacKenzie, loyal and faithful son-in-law Harry, along with three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She adored her grandchildren Jennifer (Darin) Collins, Calgary, AB, Brian (Jannah) MacKenzie, Moncton, NB, and Eric MacKenzie, Greenwood, NS. She cherished her two great-grandchildren Jessalyn and Owen Collins, Calgary, AB. Annie's family would like to thank The Mira's entire staff for their loving and compassionate care over the last six years. Also, heartfelt thanks to Rev Lori Ramsey, Rev Gary Yetman and Ruth Ann Williams of St John's Anglican Church for their faithful ministry to her. We are also indebted to Linda MacInnis for visiting Mom when we were unable to do so. A memorial service will be held at The Mira, 426 Young Street, Truro on Monday, January 21st at 10 am with Rev Lori Ramsey and Rev Gary Yetman officiating. Interment will take place at a later date at Hopewell Cemetery, Pictou County. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the IWK Foundation.
