Christena Phillips, 92, of 41 Willow St., Truro, formerly of Cape Breton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro.
Born in Belle Cote, Inverness Co., she was the daughter of the late John and Jeanie (Gordon) Shaw.
She was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses Congregation of Truro, N.S. Christena raised a family of five children and was devoted to her family and faith.
She is survived by her daughters, Mrs. Vivian Fader, Eastern Passage; Jeanie (Bruce) Hanes, Dartmouth; Cindy (Barry) Whalen, Dartmouth; sons, Harold (Donna), Truro; Lowell (Shirley), Turner Valley, Alta.; a sister, Mrs. Janet Tait, Antigonish; brother, Gordon (Joyce) Shaw, Chester and brother-in-law Herbert Van Buskirk, Oxford. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandson.
Christena was predeceased by her husband, Harold, sisters, Ellen MacDonald and Marion Van Buskirk, by two grandsons, Stephen Phillips and Jeffrey Roy Fader and daughter-in-law, Eunice Phillips.
Visitation for the late Mrs. Phillips will take place Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, 786 Alexandra St., Sydney, with Mr. Joseph Patton officiating. Interment to follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
