Harold Greenan

Born In: Spring Valley
Born: January 1st, 1945

Passed on: January 12th, 2013

It is with great sadness and much love that we say goodbye to our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle and friend. Harry passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 12, 2013, with family by his side. Harry began his life on January 1, 1945 in Spring Valley, Prince Edward Island, but lived his childhood at his family homestead in Newton, P.E.I. Harry eventually had to leave P.E.I. as he always said “he couldn’t travel far enough to date someone he wasn’t related to”. Harry eventually settled in Toronto where he started his career at Union Electric in the late sixties and where soon thereafter he met his future bride Darlene. After two children, and a few years, opportunity with a company named Halo Lighting attracted him back to the Maritimes. Harry eventually moved out west with Halo Lighting, added another daughter to the family and worked his way up the ladder to the position of Western Canadian Regional Manager. After over 20 years with the same company, Harry ventured out and started his own Commercial Lighting Agency, Prolux Lighting, where he continued to represent the original Halo line of fixtures. Harry was extremely hard working and became well respected within the lighting industry. His influence on people he encountered in life went far beyond his work environments. Harry was a charismatic, witty, openhearted man, who brought laughter wherever he went. He had a wonderful knack for entertaining, was a storyteller extraordinaire and taught everyone that it is okay to laugh at yourself, and even better to have others laugh with you. Harry was diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia in October 2009 and underwent a stem cell transplant in June 2011. Harry amazed everyone with his determination and courage throughout his illness; he never complained and was always positive. Harry was predeceased by his father, Vernon, in 1967 and mother, Mildred (Casley), in 2004. Harry leaves behind his dearly loved wife Darlene (O’Hara); his children, Patrick (Heather), Rebecca (Gus Apostolidis) and Sarah (betrothed David Street); his grandchildren, John, Erin, Constantine, Kathleen and Penelope; his brothers, Wayne, Ronnie (Claire) and Ken (Brenda); his sisters, Donna (Frank Shreenan), Beverley (Errol Howard), Pearl (Derrill Murphy), Janice (John Tiberio), Mary (Dene Gardner) and Kathy (Randy Desabrais); and his many cousins, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. Resting at Lawless Funeral Home, 21 Somerset St., Kinkora. Visiting hours on Thursday, Jan. 24, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral on Friday, Jan. 25, at St. Malachy’s Church, Kinkora, with funeral mass at 10 a.m. Interment later in the parish cemetery. Donations in Harry’s memory may be made to the Oncology Unit of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
