Matilda Elizabeth Dauphinee

Born: August 26th, 1925

Passed on: January 23rd, 2013

We are so deeply saddened to announce the passing of our precious Mumma, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend on Jan. 23, 2013.
Mum passed away peacefully at home where she wanted to be with eight of her daughters, our husbands, some of her many grandchildren and even a great-granddaughter as well as her daughter-in-law, Anna Marie, Paul’s wife.
In her early years, Mum began training to be a nurse when a friend, Anita Dauphinee-Mahe introduced her to the man she would spend the next 65 years of her life with, our Da, Omar. Mum was a proud member of the Canadian Air Force and served in Ottawa. She did much of the paperwork for Da in his role as service officer for the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 78. Mum devoted her life to her husband, and to raising her 15 children.
She was a gentle soul who always had such wise advice for each one of us. Even though she was raising a large young family, she took her own Mumma in to live with her and, as well, she helped look after her mother-in-law and later took her father-in-law to live with the family. Whatever she did, it was done with a quiet humbleness and would never expect or even want to receive praise. She tried to instill these qualities in each of her children.
Mum was one of the original members of the CWL in our area, first in St. Eugene’s parish and later moving to Immaculate Conception parish. Mum considered these ladies to be her best friends and missed their contact when she was no longer able to be active in this ministry. Mum was a woman of very strong faith, with a great devotion to Our Blessed Mother.
Tillie was the daughter of the late Michael D. Dunn and his wife Elizabeth McNeil Dunn.
She is survived by 14 of her 15 children, Corrine (Mike) Mischiek, Gerard (Jan), Lynn Dauphinee-Dodd, Nancy (Owen) Brown, Omar (Lois), Rosemary (Derrick) MacNamara, Diane (Frank Kilgar), Sharon (Doug) MacKenzie, Donna (Garry) Kenny, Marquette (Danise McNeil), Patricia (Ernie) Bishop, Carol, Allen and Kelly. She is also survived by her 32 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; her sisters Margaret Molesky, Patricia Ferguson; her brothers, Gerard, Francis, Tony and Joey; as well as many favoured nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Omar in October 2011, and her precious son, Paul, Jan. 25, 2012. She was also predeceased by a little brother Michael.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 24 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. The funeral will be held Friday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. at Immaculate Conception with Fr. Danny Boudreau officiating.
In lieu flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity. Light luncheon will follow in the parish hall. Internment will be in the parish cemetery.
