Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend Russ, age 75, passed away in the early morning hours of Thursday, January 31, 2013 at the Vermilion Hospital.

The Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at Holy Name of Jesus Roman Catholic Church in Vermilion, Alberta with Celebrant, Father Adam Deren.

Russ leaves to mourn his loving wife Grace (Married 47 years) of Vermilion. He was the proud father of daughter Andrea (Cam) Bell of Calgary, son Russell Ross (Lena) Black of Vermilion; grandfather of cherished grandchildren Liam, Jared and Clay Bell; Zachariah and Hannah Black. His dear sister and friend Stella Black and brother Walter (Odell) Black both of Kamloops, B.C.

Russ was predeceased by his parents Fred and Julia Black and sister-in-law Martie Black.

He passed away following a five year determined and courageous challenge with chronic leukemia. Most recently he spent time at both the University of Alberta and Vermilion Hospitals.

Russ was born and raised in Kamloops, B.C. Russ was a proud member of the RCMP (1960 to 1980). His service was entirely spent in "F" Division, Saskatchewan.

He was a very dedicated participant and contributor in his communities' volunteer organizations.

One of Russ's greatest passions was the family gathering place at Turtle Lake, Saskatchewan. This became his and his family's oasis to this day. His experience of life was most enjoyed there, which will be continued on by his family and grandchildren.

During his retirement years, Russ truly loved coffee row, spending time and socializing with friends.

The family expresses their sincere thanks to the professional staff at the Cross Cancer Clinic, U of A Hospital and the Vermilion Health Center. The family sends a special thank you to Dr. Maulud for her compassionate care. The family also wishes to thank those who made donations to the charities, flowers, condolence cards, and for all the phone calls and visits.
