KOHLER, DR. ALLAN CARL - Dr. Allan Carl Kohler died unexpectedly at his home in St. Andrews on February 6th, 2013. Carl was born on June 24th, 1930 in Hamilton, Ontario, son of the late Allan and Donna (MacDonnell) Kohler. Carl is survived by four sons, Michael (Debbie), Brian (Sandy), Erik (Wanda) and youngest son Christopher. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren Adam, Nicholas, Sara, Mark, Christopher, Jodi, Aimee and three great-grandchildren Noah, Jonah and Lukas. Carl is also survived by one brother, Vaughn, and four nieces and nephews. After completing a Bachelor of Science Degree at McMaster University in Hamilton and a Masters of Science Degree at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Carl moved to St. Andrews, N.B. to take a post at the Federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans as a marine scientist. He returned to McGill University to complete his PhD in Science. His speciality was ground fish research. He has several published articles in scientific journals of the day. Carl’s move to St. Andrews was precipitated by his desire to adopt a balanced, rural lifestyle for himself and his family. In his younger years he was an avid hunter and fisherman, skills he instilled in all his sons. His place of refuge was his “camp” on Gibson Lake. He also greatly enjoyed watching his sons play sports, especially hockey. His involvement also included managing some of those teams. If asked, he would probably allow that his greatest achievement was the establishment of his branch of the Kohler family in the Maritimes.
His wish was that there be no funeral or memorial service. The family will hold an informal graveside service at the St. Andrews Cemetery where he will be interned at a later date.
