THIBAULT, Laurent Herman of Ponteix, SK, passed away on February 4, 2013 in Ponteix. He was born at Ponteix on January 31, 1942 to Alfred Thibault and Marie-Anna St Cyr, the 6th of 8 children. He grew up on the farm, and spent many hours doing chores! He attended school at Notukeu and Ponteix Schools. Farming was his passion, and he began farming as soon as he was out of school, continuing until he passed away. In 1968, he married Alma Robertson, a young nurse who had moved from Scotland. They had 4 children, Laura, Brian, Murray and Kevin. Laurent was an innovative farmer who respected the land. He was first in the area to start air seeding, straight combining with aeration fans and growing winter wheat. He also worked with cattle for many years, greatly enjoying how his cows would come to him when he called. He often raised hogs on the farm and built one of five hog barns in an effort to help improve the economy in Ponteix and surrounding areas. He was actively involved in the community and church, serving on the Parish Council, Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus, RM Councillor, Foyer St. Joseph Board and was also active in various local events. Laurent and Alma were able to enjoy traveling, going to many places such as Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Mexico, Quebec and Las Vegas. He liked to visit and meet new people, and had a long list of friends and acquaintances from all over. Frequent family camping trips were always fun, where he was usually found behind the bbq. He was also an avid collector, especially enjoying old tractors. There were not many auction sales that went by without him attending! As much as he liked antiques, he was quick to embrace new things and became very adept at texting on his I-phone to keep in touch with family and friends. Gardening was his rest and relaxation and it made him so happy to give away an abundance of flowers and produce. Anyone driving to Ponteix would have seen the thousands of sunflowers that he grew every year, and many people were able to enjoy some of the hundreds of dozens of corn. Laurent is survived by his wife Alma of 44 years, and his children Laura and Barry Cornelson, (Colt, Beau, and Shane); Brian and Nancy (Shelby and Jaden); Murray and Danielle (Amanda and fiancé Justin, Brent and Chadd); and Kevin (Amber, Erica and James). He was very proud of his children and grandchildren, and would talk about them to everyone he met. He is also survived by his siblings Claire and Leo Schaff, Rita Forget, Marcel and Yvonne Thibault, Helene Burnay, Leo and Yolande Thibault, Patrick and Eunice Thibault, and Irene and Hugh McDonough; sisters-in-law Joyce and Alex Hattum, and Edna Cyrenne as well as many numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Marie-Anna Thibault, parents-in-law Margaret and Robert Robertson and brothers-in-law Willie Forget, Roy Burnay and Raymond Cyrenne. Prayer service was held Thursday, February 7 at 7:30, led by Colette Chabot. Funeral mass was held at Notre Dame d'Auvergne church in Ponteix at 2:00 pm on Friday, February 8, with Father Amedee officiating. Readings were done by Amanda Thibault, Shelby Loose, and Jaden Loose, special prayers were read by Danielle Thibault, and eulogy was read by Nancy Thibault. Organist was Dan Roberge, joined by the church choir. Urn bearer was Brent Thibault. Altar servers were Armand Cloutier, Denis Cloutier, and Marcel Liboiron. Honor Guard was the Knights of Columbus. Interment to take place at Ponteix Parish Cemetery. Lunch was held at the Parish Hall, with lunch served by the Ponteix Ladies of the Parish. Donations in Laurent's memory may be made to the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic in Regina, or the Regina Cancer Patient Lodge. Lemieux Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
