Della Sprague

SPRAGUE, DELLA - 1922 - 2013 - Del Sprague died unexpectedly on Monday, February 11, 2013 in her 91st year. Born Idella Elizabeth Mullett in Havelock, New Brunswick on September 11th, 1922, she was the daughter of Helena and Ernest Mullet and sister of Vincent. Predeceased by her husband Arnold, Del is survived by her grateful and loving family – Malcolm Sprague and June Derrah of St. Andrews and Penny and Bill Clelland of Ottawa. Remembering her with love and admiration are her sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces and nephews and her many friends young and old. Del was very proud of her service in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps (CWAC) during WWII. After the war she married and had her family. Supported by her husband and mother, Del continued her career in the Federal Civil Service in Saint John, Fredericton and Quebec City. On his retirement from the service Arnold and Del bought a farm in Burton. Del then became an accomplished cook, seamstress and homemaker. She often worked part time and volunteered for many organizations, including the Oromocto Girl Guides and Burton Home and School. A modern woman with style and grace, Del was an extraordinary partner, parent and friend. She was a natural story teller with a wonderful warmth and sense of humor. She was passionate about politics and worked tirelessly for the federal and provincial Liberal parties in many capacities. Del was a member of the Oromocto Liberal Association, IODE, Women’s Institute, United Church Women, Board of Stewards of the Pine Grove United Church, Legion Branch 93, Federal Superanuates National Association and the Burton Women’s Institute.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, February 16th at the Oromocto United Church, 144 Winnebago Street, Oromocto. The family will welcome friends on Friday, February 15th between 2:00 and 4:00 pm and 7:00 and 9:00 pm at the funeral home with a tribute held by the Royal Canadian Legion #93 at 2:00 pm.
