Semple, James Eron “Jim” – Lower Truro

Semple, James Eron “Jim” – 66, Lower Truro, wonderful husband of Shirley, great dad of Tracy and Mike, loving Papa of Lauren, Jordan and Ailey, passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side, on February 14, 2013. Born on August 12, 1946, he was the youngest child of the late Hector and Viola Semple. After graduating from North Colchester High School in Tatamagouche, Jim was employed by Maritime Tel & Tel for 31 years. He was well known throughout the company for his ability to troubleshoot the type of telephone switching technology called SA-1X Bar. At the early age of 51, Jim retired from the company. He then concentrated his time between home and cottage. Jim took an active part in the life of his community. He was the treasurer of Old Barns United Church for more than 15 years, a position that kept his mind active and a job that he devoted a lot of time to. He was also involved in keeping the Lower Truro Hall in operation for youth groups, and was involved in the building of a seniors’ complex that provided the opportunity for people to remain in their community throughout their retirement years if they so desired.

He is survived by his wife, the former Shirley Redmond; daughter, Tracy; son, Mike (Wanda); granddaughters, Jordan Tynes, Lauren and Ailey Semple; sisters, Hazel (Colin) Brenton, Jessie McKay. He was predeceased by brother, George; brother-in-law, Harry McKay.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Monday from 6-8 p.m., and funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m., both in Old Barns United Church, Rev. Ian Harrison officiating. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be made to Canadian Blood Services.
