Sylvia Jean Ross

Ross, Sylvia Jean – Aged 89, Tatamagouche, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2013 at Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, after failing health. She had lived in her own home in Waldegrave until moving to Willow Lodge in August 2013. Born in Millbrook on October 3, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Frederick A. and Elsie M. (McNutt) Langille. Sylvia was a teacher for 35 years, first in local one room schools, then at North Colchester High and Tatamagouche Elementary. In retirement she worked at the Tatamagouche Library. Sylvia strongly believed in serving her community and was active in the Historical Society, the Tatamagouche Library, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 64 Ladies Auxiliary, the Willow Lodge Auxiliary, the United Church, UCW and other community projects. Sylvia enjoyed sewing, reading, gardening and baking. She also had a great interest in animals and nature. Surviving are her children, Heather (Glenn) Forbes, Denmark; Murray (Cathy), Waldegrave; John (Kelly), Tatamagouche; her much loved grandchildren, Alex and Lauren Ross, Tom and Duncan Forbes; siblings, Elizabeth “Betty” Vause, Saskatoon, Fred Langille, Whitby, Caroline Dalzell, Moncton, as well as several special nieces and nephews across Canada. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Ronald C. “Ronnie” Ross (1992); and siblings Alice Dwinell and Arthur Langille. In keeping with Sylvia’s commitment to teaching, she wished for her body to be donated to medical science. Her family will share in a time of visitation from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 in Coulter’s Funeral Home, Tatamagouche (657-3288) and the Royal Canadian Legion Auxiliary will conduct a tribute service at 6:30 in the funeral home. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 21, in Brule Union Church, Mr. Chuck Paterson officiating. Family flowers only, by request. Memorial donations to North Shore Health Services Foundation or Willow Lodge Home for Special Care would be appreciated. Interment will be held at a later date in Bayview Cemetery, Waldegrave. The family would like to thank the staff of Willow Lodge and Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital for the care given to Sylvia during her stays there.
