
Alexandra Korolova
KOROLOVA, ALEXANDRA - May 6, 1924 - February 15, 2013 - Alexandra died peacefully on February 15, 2013 at the Saint John Regional Hospital with her family at her side. Alexandra was the wife of the late Michael Korol. She is survived by her daughter Ludmila Knezkova Hussey (Bernard), her granddaughters Jessica Hussey and Sasa Korolova (Belgium). She was predeceased by her husband Michael Korol and her son and his wife Dr. Michael Korol (Lillian) in a fatal car accident. Alexandra was born in Moscow and attended school there. She entered the military as a cadet and spent her entire career in the Russian and Czech armies. As an air force pilot with the allied forces on the Russian side during the 2nd world war, she was wounded numerous times during the war. She continued in the military and worked as a professor at the Military Academies in Moscow and Prague after the war. Retiring from the military with the highest honours, she received numerous medals and acknowledgements for her accomplishments in the military during and after the war. There have been books, movies, and numerous newspaper articles written about her life and achievements. Museums in Russia and the Czech Republic have paid tribute through exhibits featuring her personal mementos. Streets have been named in her honour in the Czech Republic and Russia. She carried the title of "Honorable Citizen" in cities of the Czech Republic, Russia and Poland. Her military actions and achievements are studied in the Czech and Russian school curriculum. After her retirement in the Czech Republic, she visited her daughter, Ludmila, and her family numerous times in Bathurst. In 2006, she moved permanently to New Brunswick and lived with her daughter and family.
The family will receive friends and relatives at the Elhatton Funeral Home Chapel, Bathurst, N. B. on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 from 1 to 2 pm. The Funeral Service will be held from the Chapel at 2 pm. A Legion Service will follow. Her contributions will be recognized with a memorial service of highest honour in her home city of the Czech Republic during the week of March 3, 2013. In Memory of Alexandra, donations to the Royal Canadian Legion or a favourite charity would be appreciated by the family.
